Jewellery Display Tutorial

I have an exciting DIY for you today! I've been looking for a way to organize my jewellery, and I'd found some fantastic displays on Etsy, but they were all fairly expensive. So the other day my husband and I were at the thrift store and he found this little cabinet that is PERFECT!

Materials Needed:
1. Cabinet of choice from antique/thrift store or wherever you can find one!
2. Preferred size and quantity of screw hooks and screw eyes
3. Ruler
4. Pen or pencil
5. Pliers for twisting screws in if necessary

1. Purchase a small cabinet (I purchased this one at a local thrift store for $1.50!)
2. Two different screws: Screw Eyes for earrings (I used 1/2"), and Screw Hooks for necklaces (I used 3/8")
3. Measure along the top edge of the cabinet, and decide how many screw eyes you will want. I used 14 on top and 14 on bottom.
4. We divided the width of the top piece-where you want your screws to be-in half and drew a straight line. Then measure out intervals where you want your screws to go
5. Install the screw eyes. We found it works best if you hammer a nail into the spot a short way before attempting the screw eye to get the hole started.
6. This is what it looks like once all the screw eyes are in place :)
**Use Instruction #5 to install the screw hooks onto the bottom of the cabinet for necklaces.

Here's how mine looks now!

Cute drawers good for storing bracelets, rings, etc.

I have do admit that my husband did most of the work, I snapped the pictures! (Thanks my dear, I love you!)

If you make your own, I'd love to see it! Put the link in the comments :)

We Eat: Lunch

Hey guys! I've got another installment for you, I'm calling it 'We Eat' because well...I'm going to share recipes with you!  I've started making a meal plan every week to save money on groceries and so that we don't come home and wonder what in the world we are going to have.

Today I'm sharing Pesto Pasta Salad with Beer Bread

Pesto Pasta Salad with Broccoli and Cherry Tomatos (From Flat Belly Diet Cookbook)

4 ounces rotini pasta (I actually never measure pasta, I just make whatever I feel like!)
2 cups broccoli florets 1 cup grape tomatoes, halved
1/4 red onion, thinly sliced (about 1/4 cup)
1/4 cup packed fresh basil, thinly sliced
1/4 cup Pesto
2 Tablespoons olive oil

Instructions:
1. Bring a large pot of water to boil, and add pasta. Cook according to directions on package. Once it's done, drain and rinse the pasta and transfer to large bowl
2. Add the tomatoes, onion, and basil to the pasta. Combine pesto and oil in a separate bowl. Stir the pesto mixture into the pasta and toss well. Serve right away or refrigerate until ready to serve cold.

I will admit-our beer bread is from a pre-packaged mix that only required adding a can of beer and then baking, but I found a great recipe on Pasty Affair

Enjoy!

When Husband Makes Supper

I'm always super impressed when husband makes meals, he always makes something amazing and tasty! Don't even get me started on his homemade Tzatziki sauce FOR REALZ!

A few weeks ago I came home from work, and usually husband works later than I do, but he left work early to make supper for us since I had to be somewhere shortly after I got home! He made grilled chicken spinach salad with mango and goat cheese! Such a simple thing, but it was super tasty, and the thought behind made it even better <3

My Smart Brother

A few weekends ago, my younger brother graduated! My whole family went to join in the celebration. I've been reading the Teen Vogue Handbook, which is amazing! There's all kinds of bios from designers, stylists, editors, models, makeup artist, you name it! I've had it for a few years now and have been reading little by little, but I just love it!

Here's a few photos of the happy grad, and my other siblings

And here's his pretty wife in a super adorable Modcloth dress!

I'm really glad we went, it's nice to be there for special moments in your family's life :) Congrats Luke, so proud of you!

Fargo Pt.3

Another place I'd never been to: Scheels (Which I insisted on pronouncing 'sk-heels' all weekend), it has a ferris wheel in the middle of the store! So cool. A very interesting store all around to say the least! They have sportswear, womens clothing, home decor, hunting/fishing/sporting goods, you name it!

We then found our way to an antique mall where I snapped a few photos of some cool pieces. I went away with a skeleton key to put on a chain. I had one last year, but I forgot it in a dressing room on our way home :(

Hehehe. Here's husband sleeping on a lounge chair in Bed Bath and Beyond! (Don't worry-he's just pretending)

Then on the way home it rained all the way to Grand Forks, but then the sun came out and it was quite a nice warm day :)

All-in-all it was a really great weekend. If you've not tried Famous Dave's and there is one close to you-YOU MUST GO!

Fargo Pt.2

The first night we got there, we went to Famous Dave's for supper! I'd never been, and wow, what an experience! We ordered a few appetizers-this one is BBQ chips with ranch sauce and bacon! WOW.

If you've never been either, this is what the restaurant looks like! It made me feel like I was at some sort of fair or festival, eating in the middle of all the lights and game booths!

Starting with the corn moving clock-wise: Corn on the cob, corn bread (THE BEST cornbread I've ever had!!!), coleslaw, pulled pork, the best ribs I've ever had, chicken, and in the middle-baked beans.  This is my husband's favorite food-BBQ :)  It was so delicious, I will definitely go with him again!

And of course we had to go to ihop-I love crepes, so I always go for crepes when we get to go there!
Finally, we had brunch at Ruby Tuesday! I'd never been there either and we had their Sunday brunch which was RIDICULOUSLY fantastic. Probably the best brunch I've ever had at a restaurant. Starting with the bacon, going clock-wise: Bacon, Cherry pastry, eggs Benedict, cake type thing with icing, doughnut holes, croissant, and an sticky apple type thing in the center.  This does not even scratch the surface of all the food they had.  If you've never been, I would highly recommend it!

And there you have our food adventures of the weekend :) Next up: Antique mall adventures!

Fargo Pt.1

A few weeks ago in April my husband's parents took us to the states for a shopping trip!
The first day when we were in the mall, they had this recycled fashion exhibit, it was so cool.

This first one, the skirt is made out of coffee filters

I think this one was made out of garbage bags and then the necklace/neckline is made out of safety pins and pop can tabs!

DDR mat top and Monopoly money skirt!

It was very cool.  I love to see when unconventional items are used to make garments (even though everyone loathes the unconventional challenges on Project Runway, I always love to see what they come up with!), and the initiative is so great.

More to come! :)

We Eat Food

We eat a lot of good food around here, I thought I'd share a few peeks of some of them that I've snapped with Instagram :) This first one is BRUNCH! I LOVE brunch. There's just something about putting a whole bunch of yummy things together in the middle of the morning.

1. Cottage Cheese Waffles

With: Cool Whip, frozen blueberries and orange juice. MMMMMM My mom made these, and I HAD to have the recipe. I never used to like waffles because they were always to fat, and dry and I did not see the appeal. Cottage Cheese waffles on the other hand, are light and fluffy and so good you can eat them by themselves !(See recipe for waffles below!)

 2. Stuffed Peppers with Crustini Bread and Spinach Salad (This is what happens when husband makes supper!)

Stuffed with: aged cheddar, another kind of cheese(?) and pesto!
Crustini: Baguette toasted to perfection, sorta like a giant crouton!
Spinach Salad: Mushrooms, Blackberries, Goat Cheese, Alfalfa Sprouts, and walnuts. OH MY GOODNESS.

 3. Toasted Cinnamon Buns with Bacon, Fruit and Yogurt

I'm drooling just thinking about it all! And just for being a good reader, I have the cottage cheese waffle recipe I promised!

1 c. cottage cheese (creamy, not dried)
4 eggs
1/2 c. milk
1/2 c. oil
1 tsp. vanilla
1/2 c. flour
1/2 tsp. salt

Put all ingredients into a blender, blend till smooth. Pour into waffle maker as per usual.
Makes about 6-7 waffles

Happy Eating! :)
