Homemade Ranch Dressing

Y'know how when the new year rolls around and you really try to do things right this time?  Well so far so good!  For some reason over the past little while I have just been disgusted with store bought salad dressings.  I'm no sure why, but it could be the way it congeals on the outside of the lid when you close it...gross!

I decided it was time to attempt my own.  I LOVE ranch dressing and so I went on a search to find the right one.  I found it in my Dairy Free cookbook and adapted it a little bit.

Homemade Ranch Dressing (adapted from "Go Dairy Free" 5 Star Ranch Dressing recipe)
Ingredients:

1/3 cup milk *note that the go dairy free cookbook uses a milk substitute like soy or almond milk, I chose to use real milk instead
1 tsp. lemon juice
1 cup yogurt (plain or greek if you would like it to be thicker) *note that the go dairy free cookbook uses mayonnaise here buy I decided to try yogurt instead
2 tsp. fresh parsley
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. onion powder
1/8-1/4 tsp. black pepper
1/8 tsp salt

Instructions:
Combine lemon juice and milk in a bowl and let it sit for 5-10 minutes.  This will cause the milk to sour like you want it to.   Combine all other ingredients together in a bowl and whisk in the milk until smooth.  Put into sealable container (I used a mini jar) and refrigerate about 30 minutes before serving.

Enjoy!

  1. Looks interesting. I might have to try it. Just one question - it says dairy free and then includes milk and yogurt in the ingredients. I don't understand :(
