Style Me February: Closet & Instagram Challenge!

I got snagged recently by a Facebook ad for Dean Street Society where Hilary Rushford shared 3 videos on how to simplify your style.  The videos have since been taken down because her class started and it was a little sneak peek.

I signed up for the video emails and also for the February Closet Challenge which I was really excited about!  At this point in the Winter season, I am pretty tired of my clothes and I think this will be a fun way to try new things with what I already have.

Here's my February 1st "Feeling Pretty in Pink" outfit.

I don't really wear pink pink as it is not a color I gravitate towards, so I wore this bright coral shirt to work today and paired it with a fun polka dot blazer-I got a lot of compliments for wearing such a bright color!

Work clothes for me are an obligation.  I generally do not like my work clothes as much as I like my non-work clothes and I like to keep them separated (i.e. I don't wear work clothes when not at work, not even blouses or blazers).

I work at a financial institution where the dress code is business professional.  So I'm usually wearing black dress pants with a blouse and a cardigan or blazer.  I really hate dress pants and I can't stand tight jackets so I prefer cardigans with room to move about and blazers with some stretch.

I picked this top for the challenge and of course the typical black pant and then I wanted to wear something fun so I added this blazer which also cinches in the waist to provide some sense of shape.

WHAT will I WEAR tomorrow for animal spots and FURS?????!  Stay tuned to find out! ;)

First Outfit: Tie Dye

Hello friends!  So, I am beginning my fashion journey of 2017 today!  Here is an outfit I put together for drinks with a friend and supper with the in-laws.

What I like about this outfit is that it incorporates a lot of cool pieces and makes me feel put together.  I paired this vest over a tye-dye tunic to create some sense of shape to the upper part of my body and then the skinny jeans taper down to the ankle boots.  Overall, very happy with this look, I will absolutely be wearing it again.  So comfortable and makes me happy!

Wore Stories: Braided Tunic Sweater

Every now and then I take some time to make something for myself.  I had this idea after I saw this beautiful braided look fabric in a stretch knit, and it turned out super cute!

I love mixing textures which is why I wanted to do the bottom of the sleeve in the braided fabric as well.  I have some more of this fabric in grey so we'll see what else I get up to!

Thanks for reading!

Katie Cares Fashion Show 2015

This year I again took part in the annual Katie Cares Fashion Show fundraiser!

My models looking super fine, ready to walk the runway!
It was so much fun, there's so much energy and excitement on the day of the fashion show, backstage is always a flurry with changes and perfecting hair and makeup, it is truly a special time!

This lovely lady filled in last minute when one of my models was sick with food poisoning!

I finished this dress in time to wear it to the show,

This event is put on by the Katie Cares Foundation who raises money to be able to provide toys, games and other loving gifts to kids in the hospital!  Find out more about their charity and the amazing work they are doing to build Katie's Cottage here.

The Back 40 Folk Festival

Here's a few looks that I sold at the Back 40 Folk Festival a number of weekends ago!  I'm loving these bright colors and vintage inspired vibes!

Here's me at my booth

Here's my dad playing along with the bands in the background :)

The Back 40 Folk Festival is a really cool festival featuring-you guessed it-folk music!  They feature local artists who create original songs and also do a workshop!

This was my 4th year participating in the Artisan Village and it was great!  The weather was awesome until right at the end when it hailed while we were cleaning up!  It was an adventure to say the least!

I got to show a variety of items and be part of a great cause!

Thanks to my amazing models for helping me out!

I feel very honored to have been able to be a part of the Katie Cares fashion show for my 3rd year now, it was a wonderful night and such a great cause, if you would like to read more about what Katie Cares does, click here!

Wore Stories: How I Really Feel

There is a reason I did not post this outfit.  I feel like I look fat and ugly.  Which is funny because I love this outfit!  But I hate these pictures.  However-this is about getting real and SO here we are.

I don't look super impressed do I?  Guess what, I was trying to give my super hot fashion outfit face.  Not so hot is it?

Then my husband caught this pretty picture from a different angle, which I loved and used on Instagram and for my Facebook profile, etc.

Then...I felt awkward and did something a little more silly (see below).  It's not even that silly I realize, but what I love about this is that this picture is much more me than the first two.  I am not a fashion model, I am a silly fun-loving woman who just loves to put outfits together!

Here's a little smile about how I feel about doing something silly.  I probably see people walking by too and I'm a little embarrassed about them seeing us taking outfit pictures.

I just want to thank everyone who provided feedback on my last post, I sort of forgot how many people I can reach on here and on Facebook and was a little scared once I thought about who would all be reading it.  But I'm not taking it down because I want to be real.

So here is a real outfit post, that I don't really like, but I am a real woman.  I have hips and a chest and guess what, I don't look like this girl in the photo that was my inspiration for this outfit.

BUT I am not her, she is not me, we have different shapes and professions and lifestyles!
We need to stop comparing ourselves to other people.

My challenge to you is-attempt to love who you are RIGHT NOW.  Don't get down on yourself about what you look like or what you wish you looked like in the future and why you can't get there, etc.
If you want to change something about it, then it's good to make goals but we need to love ourselves within the process.

I'm writing this for myself as well, what I'm saying doesn't really sink in with me yet either, I just know something has to change and I'm tired of trying to be something I'm not and wondering why I'm trying to be something I am not anyway.

SO.  I hope you'll continue with me on this journey, and for those of you who are interested in the fashion aspect, here's my outfit details!

Back to School: Ladies Wear

Some of you may know already that I'm taking Apparel Design at Red River College in the city!  It's been SO much fun, I'm sad this year is nearly over!

This last term we are faced with the challenge of designing original designs and following them to completion: Sketch the idea, create the pattern, sew the garment.  I'm so proud with how my first attempt turned out:

This next photo is the class where we showed what we'd made along with the pattern pieces.

Next is kids wear, and I'm so excited to make clothing for my daring little niece!  Stay tuned....
