Behind the Scenes With Pure Anada

Photos by Krysten Cathleen Photography

Last week I scheduled a photoshoot for my Etsy shop and had the pleasure of working with a local makeup company, Pure Anada.  The lovely Kristen came down to do our makeup before we headed out to our shoot location, and I couldn't be happier with the outcome!

Here's Heidi's look:

We wanted a super light, summer look with a smooth pink lip.

Along with the powders shown above, we also used Pure Anada's fantastic Natural Mascara in black (one of my personal favorite products), the Berry lip pencil, Fresh Mandarin mineral blush and a translucent pressed powder.

Here's Anne's Look:

With Anne's skin tone Kristen went with a different palette for her eyes with gorgeous creme and yellow shades.

Huge thanks to Pure Anada for doing our makeup for us and making us look so beautiful and fresh!

Behind The Scenes

I wanted to share a little bit of behind-the-scene footage from our photoshoot a few weeks ago!
I hung up all the pieces in our living room sorted by who was supposed to wear them.

Janelle did fantastic makeup for my fall looks, you can check her out on Instagram HERE

I did a Katniss braid on her...

This is Krysten, she is my other sis-in-law and my photographer! Check her out HERE

Precious moments

Just a few photos I've taken lately on my phone, the one above was taken at a Greenhouse while plant shopping with my mother-in-law, these colors were so beautiful, I love the violet burst in the middle!

My husband set up a super cute pallet table for our galvanized buckets to go on and strung some lights, so cute!

Of course I've been spending time at my parents at their pool, it's so relaxing and refreshing!

Been spending a bunch of time at Jonny's Java working on design inspirations with my sis-in-law

Found a delightful tree friend on a walk!

What have you been up to this summer?

Pure Anada Collaboration: Behind the Scenes

I recently had the wonderful opportunity to collaborate with my favorite makeup company, Pure Anada.

They have the cutest shop in Morden, MB and I own a ton of their stuff so I was super excited when they contacted me!

Pure Anada is a natural makeup company made right near my hometown.  I currently am loving their tinted moisturizer, cream blush and spring eye shadow colors!

I was contacted to provide clothing for a photoshoot that they were doing in partnership with Causemetics, an organization who is dedicated to helping women who have cancer.

Our beautiful model Melanie got all dolled up care of Pure Anada, donned two of my pieces and was a knockout!

Here's a few photos I snapped with my iPhone at the shoot

I'll share more once the final photos come available, but I just wanted to share a peek at the day.

Melanie is wearing custom jewelry from Marni Luhu who also partnered with us for the day!

You can read Melanie's blog post about there day here and make sure to check out Pure Anada, and Causmetics for more information about these fantastic companies!

Back to School: Ladies Wear

Some of you may know already that I'm taking Apparel Design at Red River College in the city!  It's been SO much fun, I'm sad this year is nearly over!

This last term we are faced with the challenge of designing original designs and following them to completion: Sketch the idea, create the pattern, sew the garment.  I'm so proud with how my first attempt turned out:

This next photo is the class where we showed what we'd made along with the pattern pieces.

Next is kids wear, and I'm so excited to make clothing for my daring little niece!  Stay tuned....

Studio Secrets

I was recently asked what I'm doing for studio lighting, so I thought I'd share a few 'secrets' (so to speak) with you.  So here's my DIY Photo Studio on a budget!

A friend of my husband's was using blackout fabric as a projector screen, and once he didn't need it anymore, I seized the opportunity!
Blackout fabric is the material used behind curtains to keep the light out-hence the name. It's fairly lightweight, and it can be washed in the washing machine and dried in the dryer.  You should be able to get blackout fabric at any fabric store, this piece was $15.

My lighting 'secret' is an interesting one, I'm using two utility lights from a farm equipment store (which happens to be owned by my father-in-law, but you should be able to get these at any hardware store).

I also recently bought a wireless remote for my camera, and I'm really happy with how my Etsy photos are looking using this setup.

I hope this is helpful, it's been frustrating trying to figure out good locations for Etsy photos, especially in the wintertime when outside isn't the best option and natural light is hard to come by.
I also know how expensive real studio equipment is (I have access to one studio light, but you really need two to create a well-lit photo), so I made something else work!

There you have it!  Do you have any studio secrets?  I'd love to hear them!  If you have any other questions for me, visit my contact page for ways to get in touch :)
